He may make you think of New Orleans, but Harry Connick Jr. knows a thing or two about New England. The beloved crooner’s Cape Cod home hit the market for $12,500,000 Wednesday.

Tucked on a bluff in Chatham at the end of a long driveway, the five-bed, 5.5-bath gray Shingle-style home sits on an elevated lot measuring 1.32 acres. Surrounded by mature trees and lush landscaping, the house, built in 1963, is tucked behind hedges for privacy and has undergone extensive renovations.

“To be on the water and in the village or close to the downtown of Chatham, that’s very unusual,” said Paul Grover of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Robert Paul Properties, who has the listing. “To be very private and on the water and in town, it’s almost unheard of.”

Inside, the home was impeccably crafted, boasting smooth hardwood floors and water views from nearly every room. The kitchen, which truly blends indoor and outdoor living, features an island with seating for four, a dining area set before a wall of windows, stainless steel appliances, and a brick fireplace.

The comfortable living room features another brick fireplace and French doors to the patio. The family room, which measures 440 square feet, is the ultimate spot for kicking back and listening to vinyl.

A private staircase leads up to the 401-square-foot primary suite, the picture of seaside living. There you’ll find a walk-in closet, a 145-square-foot study, an en-suite bath, as well as doors that open to a balcony overlooking the pool.

In the dining area, French doors open to a waterside terrace with easy access to a swimming pool and patio. A stairway leads down to the private dock and the boathouse, with the water providing prime access to Nantucket Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. Oyster Pond Beach, Main Street, and the rest of Chatham’s wonderful offerings are just a short distance away. Naturally, the views of Oyster Pond and Chatham Village are the dream of any Cape resident or vacationer.

“It’s classic and charming, and it’s weather-shingled,” Grover said. “It feels very, very homey and very comfortable. It’s spacious, it’s gracious, but it’s not showy.”

There’s also a 761-square-foot basement, with an additional storage area. Anyone eager to get their summer off on the right foot will be delighted to hear that the home is being offered furnished.

In Chatham, “our children could come and go as they pleased,” Connick Jr. told the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the news, in a statement. “We could walk to town, to the grocery store and pharmacy, to Chatham A’s baseball games, and the Fourth of July parade.”

Sounds like he could write a book on Chatham life.
