Asked to name a New England state, ‘Family Feud’ contestants answer ‘New York’ and ‘Spain’

TV

Geography proves a challenge to families from Indiana and Georgia.

One of these things is not like the other … David Degner/New York Times

We know that geography is hard, and also that people who live outside of New England don’t tend to give us much thought. But we were still surprised at some of the answers that families from Indiana and Georgia gave on “Family Feud” Tuesday night, when host Steve Harvey presented them with the question, “Name a U.S. state that is part of New England.”

After a member of the Hopkins family hit the buzzer but drew a blank, the Paulson family struck out with “New Hampshire” — not their fault, since only the top four answers were on the board and New Hampshire didn’t make the cut.

“Massachusetts” finally got the Hopkinses a ding, but with the No. 2 answer (!), giving the Paulsons a chance to counter. Fortunately for the Hopkinses, the Paulsons responded with “New York.” New York!

Things went downhill from there, with responses that included everything from Delaware to (check notes) … Spain. And of course, Steve Harvey looked dumbfounded throughout. Watch the carnage below.
