The trooper recorded a video of the rescue, showing the pelican stuck near a bay
A trooper helped rescue a pelican who needed help after getting snagged by a fishing hook at a northeastern Oklahoma lake. Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials said Trooper Ryan Griffith rescued a pelican Thursday morning after a fishing hook went through its webbed foot at Cowskin Bay North at Keystone Lake.Griffith recorded videos of the rescue, showing the pelican stuck near the bay and flapping its wings but unable to get away. He went into the water and unhooked the pelican before letting it go and join others that weren’t too far away. “He’s got a little hole in his foot, but I think he’ll be OK,” Griffith said in the video. “It’ll probably heal up. He’ll be tender for a little bit. But, mission success.”
