Third victim dies after Christmas night wrong-way crash on Mass. highway
A third victim critically injured in a wrong-way crash on a Massachusetts highway on Christmas night has died as a result of injuries sustained, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said. Donna Arruda, 68, of Seekonk, died Friday afternoon at Rhode Island Hospital, police said. Her husband, Floriano Arruda, 73, of Seekonk and their 15-year-old grandson, Jacoby Arruda, also of Seekonk, also died from injuries suffered in the crash. State police said troopers responded to the westbound side of Veterans Memorial Bridge in Somerset, which is part of Route 6, at 11:10 p.m. on Monday. Police said a 2023 Land Rover SUV with a New York registration was heading eastbound on the westbound side of the highway. The Land Rover struck two westbound vehicles, a 2019 Honda Accord sedan with two occupants and a 2014 Infiniti QX50 SUV with the Arruda family inside. The DA’s Office said Adam Gauthier, 41, of New York City, faced new charges following the death of Donna Arruda. He was previously charged with motor vehicle homicide while under the influence, manslaughter, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and wrong-way operation on a state highway.
