
Suspects sought after brick thrown through window of Mass. kosher store

Police are searching for suspects after a brick was thrown through the front window of a Brookline, Massachusetts, business early Sunday morning.The incident happened just after midnight at The Butcherie, a kosher grocery store, at 428 Harvard Street in Brookline. According to a police statement, the words “Free Palestine” were written on the brick in large red letters. “Preliminary investigation indicates that shortly after midnight, multiple suspects wearing masks came from Coolidge Street and threw the brick through the window of The Butcherie,” Brookline police continued in the statement. “The exact number of suspects is not confirmed at this time, but there were at least two. The suspects then fled back down Coolidge Street to an unknown location. As of now it does not appear that any other businesses were targeted.”Gil Zilberberg, the owner of The Butcherie, said the incident saddened him. “Very sad these type of things happen. It’s a pure hate crime against the Jewish people. This has been my home for the past twenty-something years,” Zilberberg said.Over 150 people rallied in front of the store Sunday afternoon to show support for the store.Samantha Joseph, the Anti-Defamation League’s New England Regional Director released a statement in response to the incident, which read in part:”Holding a Jewish business accountable for the situation in the Middle East is antisemitic, plain and simple and is another example of radical anti-Israel activity resulting in violence against the Jewish community,” Joseph said. “Everyone must condemn this appalling attack.
