
Suspect in JCC vandalism, attempt to intimidate Jews arrested

A Boston man faces several criminal charges in connection with vandalism at the Jewish Community Center in Newton and an earlier alleged incident of antisemitic harassment, police said.Newton police said the suspect, whose name was not immediately confirmed, was identified on Tuesday after officers responded to a report of a man tearing blue ribbons off trees lining the JCC property at 333 Nahanton St. The man was charged with defacing property, defacing property to intimidate and larceny.As the investigation continued, police said the man was also identified as the driver of a white SUV during an incident in Newton on April 30.”On that date, the suspect is alleged to have driven to Newton in a white SUV in order to harass and intimidate Jewish community members walking in the area,” police wrote in a statement.In connection with that incident, police said the man faces charges of assault for the purpose of intimidation, assault with a dangerous weapon and violation of constitutional rights.The suspect was arrested Thursday and is expected to be arraigned on Friday in Newton District Court.
