Nikki Haley visits Mass., speaks one-on-one about her plans beyond Super Tuesday

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley made a campaign stop in Massachusetts on Saturday night, a state she hopes to win on Super Tuesday as her future in the GOP primary remains unclear.”You’ve yet to win a primary contest,” WCVB’s Shaun Chaiyabhat asked Haley in a one-on-one interview in Needham. “Will you stay in the race after Super Tuesday?””Well, we’ve only had a handful of states,” Haley said. “I think that if you look at what we’ve done, to be able to get 30 to 40 percent is no small amount. As long as 70% of Americans are saying, ‘I don’t want Donald Trump or Joe Biden,’ we’re going to continue to be an alternative.”Haley is holding firm despite the odds against current GOP frontrunner Donald Trump. Her campaign has touted her ability to win a general election against President Biden. However, a recent New York Times poll suggests Trump would also beat Biden in November. When asked what the poll means to her, Haley pointed to another part of the poll. “It shows Donald Trump squeaks by, but it shows I defeat Joe Biden by ten points,” Haley said. Haley was rallying a crowd in Needham, saying there’s still room for her brand of politics in today’s GOP.”You’ll see at the rallies these are massive crowds of people who are not anti-Trump,” Haley said. “They’re pro-America.”Haley recently picked up two major endorsements from two U.S. Senators: Susan Collins from Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska. However, it may not be enough. Longtime Republican senate leader Mitch McConnell is now saying he does not see a future for himself in today’s GOP. Haley says the GOP candidate for president must focus on bringing people into the party. “You don’t hear me criticize any other Republicans. You don’t hear me criticize any Americans because a leader doesn’t do that.”Haley, the former U.N. ambassador under the previous Trump administration, said that she is not interested in another Trump cabinet position or even vice president.
