Man flees after pointing gun at mail carrier, prompting search, police say
A search is underway in a Tewksbury, Massachusetts, neighborhood Tuesday after a man pointed a gun at a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier, according to police.Tewksbury police said the search was ongoing in the Chandler Street and Euclid Road area. Residents were asked to stay clear of the area.Police said at about 11:04 a.m., a male wearing a mask pointed a firearm at a mail carrier in the area of 483 Shawsheen St., but it’s unclear if it was a robbery attempt.The mail carrier drove to another location to call it in, police said.Tewksbury police responded to the area and saw the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Whipple Road. Officers followed that vehicle to the area of Tomahawk Drive, at which point the driver bailed out of the vehicle and ran away. From Sky5, several members of local and state law enforcement and K-9 teams could be seen in the neighborhood. The State Police Airwing was also over the area.Police said a firearm was recovered on Grasshopper Lane, but the man remains at large.The person is described as a Black male, possibly in his late teens or early 20s, who was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt and a mask, police said.Anyone who sees the person should not approach him and call 911, police said.
