Three years after the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old in Cambridge, police and prosecutors are renewing their call for help in cracking the case. Xavier Louis-Jacques, 19, of Cambridge, was found unconscious outside of his white Lexus sedan early on the morning of March 27, 2021, in the area of the Rindge baseball field and the basketball courts located on Pemberton Street. Two passersby called 911, and first responders discovered that Louis-Jacques was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, said Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.According to the DA, Louis-Jacques’ vehicle was locked and he still possessed his phone and keys. He was taken to Mount Auburn Hospital, where he later died. Louis-Jacques’ mother, Rayschell McCants, told NewsCenter 5 in 2021 that her son may have been trying to sell a pair of sneakers on Pemberton Street when he was robbed and shot just steps from his home.”The sweetest kid,” McCants said. “He had no evil in his heart. He didn’t do much of anything that would jeopardize him to be in this situation.”According to his mother, Louis-Jacques was an athlete and artist, with one of his pottery works ending up on display in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. He was also saving up money to study engineering in college.”Because he was gunned down and killed by a coward, I don’t want people to associate that with who Xavier was as a person,” McCants said. “That’s not who Xavier is.””Xavier was extremely loved and was a genuinely good kid, and I just don’t know who would want to hurt him,” she said.The DA and Cambridge Police Commissioner Christine Elow said the case remains an active investigation.
