Couple hikes to top of mountain in wedding dresses to get married
Vermont is a popular destination for a fall wedding, but one couple decided to really take advantage of the beautiful scenery to make their special day unique by climbing to the top of the third-highest mountain in the state — all while wearing their wedding dresses.Instead of saying their “I do’s” in a rustic barn or at a wedding venue, Alicia and Crystal Blakely decided to hike to the top of Camel’s Hump in Huntington, Vermont, with an elevation of 4,083 feet, for a one-of-a-kind elopement ceremony.”We always knew we wanted to hike in our wedding dresses,” Alicia Blakely said. “We figured since you only wear your wedding dress once, we might as well make the most of it and not worry if they got dirty.”The couple met 10 years ago as freshmen in college and said hiking has been an important part of their relationship ever since. The pair hiked the Long Trail several years ago and said when it came time to plan their ceremony in the summer of 2022, integrating a hike into the ceremony came naturally and spontaneously.The pair tied the knot on Sept. 30, at the summit of Camel’s Hump with a beautiful view of the fall foliage surrounding the mountain.”Camel’s Hump has always been our favorite mountain in Vermont, so we knew that it was the perfect place for our ceremony,” Alicia said. “We really lucked out that the weather that day was gorgeous and the trail was dry. We know how muddy the Vermont trails can be.”When asked if they had any tips for other couples who might be inspired to follow their lead and have a similar adventure-themed ceremony, the pair said to do some practice hikes before the big day and to wear a lightweight dress.” magical,” Alicia said. “The day was perfect and having clear views from the summit made our ceremony feel even more special.
