Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand became just the eighth player in the 100-year history of the organization to appear in 1,000 games for the team when he took the ice Tuesday night.

Marchand started the game and was at left wing for the opening faceoff against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He was acknowledged by the TD Garden crowd during a timeout in the first period.

The 35-year-old has played all 15 of his NHL seasons with the Bruins but Boston’s centennial season marks Marchand’s first as the team’s captain.

Entering Tuesday’s game, Marchand ranked fifth in Bruins history with 397 career goals and eighth in franchise history with 513 career assists. His 910 career points put him fifth on Boston’s all-time list.

Marchand’s 77 game-winning goals are tied for third on the Bruins’ all-time list. He is also among the franchise’s top five with 146 playoff game appearances (5th), 53 playoff goals (2nd), 75 playoff assists (4th) and 128 playoff points (T-2nd).

His career plus-minus rating of plus-298 is currently the best among active NHL players and fifth in Bruins history.

The seven other players to appear in at least 1,000 career games with the Bruins are Hockey Hall of Famers Ray Bourque (1,518) and John Bucyk (1,436); current Bruins general manager Don Sweeney (1,052); two-time Stanley Cup champion Wayne Cashman (1,027); and three former teammates of Marchand’s who were all part of Boston’s 2011 championship team: Patrice Bergeron (1,294), David Krejci (1,032) and Zdeno Chara (1,023).

The Bruins said they will honor Marchand for reaching the 1,000-game milestone on Monday, Feb. 19, before the Bs play the Dallas Stars at 1 p.m. at TD Garden.
