An aircraft crashed into the Merrimack River between Lawrence, North Andover and Methuen, Mass. on Monday afternoon. According to the FAA, the plane is a single-engine Van’s RV-6A. Only the pilot was on board. The name and medical condition of the pilot has not yet been released.The plane is upside down in the river northeast of the Lawrence Municipal Airport, Sky5 saw. Rescue boats and multiple safety personnel are attempting to recover the plane. Firefighters used rescue tools to access the fuselage from the bottom of the plane.Records from flight tracking website FlightAware indicate the plane departed from Lawrence Municipal Airport at 2:11 p.m. and was in the air for about 3 minutes.Ambulances were staged at Riverview Boulevard while police choppers circle overhead.
