2 men in their 70s assaulted during Dunkin’ coffee gathering, police say

A man is facing charges after two men in their 70s were assaulted inside a Dunkin’ in Worcester, Massachusetts.Police said a 72-year-old man was sitting with friends Tuesday morning at the coffee shop on Park Avenue when the group was approached by a man asking for money.They refused to give money to the man, later identified by officers as 37-year-old Manuel Santiago, police said.Santiago became upset, left the store for a few minutes and returned wearing a black ski mask, police said. He allegedly struck the 72-year-old man in the face, and then struck another man, who is also 72 years old, when he tried to intervene before he fled the area.One of the victims was taken to the hospital to be treated for a broken nose.Santiago was later found near the Dollar Tree store at 50 Mill St., where police said he was harassing customers.Santiago was arrested and charged with two counts of assault and battery on a person over 60. Police said when Santiago was booked, he gave a fake name to officers. He was additionally charged with furnishing a false name to police after arrest.
