Raccoon rescued from top of Massachusetts Turnpike streetlight

Newton first responders are used to dealing with various situations on the Massachusetts Turnpike. Monday night, they encountered a most unusual one. They brought the fire truck onto the highway, but not to use on any vehicles that may have caught fire. The fire department used the ladder truck to reach the top of a light pole in the median of the highway, where somehow, a raccoon was located. Video from the scene showed the first responders climbing the ladder and using a pole to pull the animal to safety. The raccoon was placed into a box as they slowly walked down the ladder, parked in the middle of the highway, with traffic speeding by. The person who sent us the video says once the first responders got to the ground, the raccoon broke free and ran off.
