Police: Family members chased man who picked up, kissed 4-year-old

Witnesses and family members stopped a man from taking a 4-year-old child who was outside playing on Sunday evening, Boston police said.Anthony Jackson, 31, of Jamaica Plain, faces charges of kidnapping a child under age 16 and indecent assault and battery on a child. Police said they were sent to a Jamaica Plain neighborhood in response to a reported fight at 6:42 p.m.”Officers spoke with witnesses who stated that they observed an unknown male approach a four-year-old victim who was outside playing. The suspect took the 4-year-old by the hand, picked her up and kissed her,” police wrote in a statement.”A witness said that he or she heard the suspect state to the victim, ‘You’re getting so big,'” prosecutor Amy Parker told a Roxbury District Court judge during Jackson’s arraignment hearing Monday. The witnesses said the man began to walk away while holding the child, but a witness yelled for him to put the child down and alerted the family. They chased Jackson and stopped him from leaving the area, police said. During Monday’s arraignment, a court doctor testified that Jackson has a history of psychiatric problems and psychiatric hospitalizations dating back to when he was 17 years old. Jackson’s defense attorney argued that the medication Jackson takes to treat those issues could have affected his behavior.Jackson’s bail was set at $5,000 in this case and bail was revoked in three other open cases involving indecency.
