Mass. native Clairo’s third studio album is out
“Alewife” singer debuts 11 new tracks on “Charm.”

Massachusetts native Clairo released her highly anticipated third studio album Charm Thursday night at midnight.
The 11-track album already had two singles out, “Sexy to Someone” and “Nomad.” The last track on Charm, “Pier 4,” may be a reference to the Seaport area. Music reviewing site Pitchfork already rated the album a 7.5 out of 10.
The “Alewife” (yes, like the Red Line stop) singer, whose real name is Claire Cotrill, was born in Atlanta but grew up in Carlisle. She started recording music on her MacBook at the age of 13, and performing covers in local Carlisle and Concord shops. In late 2017, her song and video for “Pretty Girl” went viral on YouTube, amassing over 103 million views to date. She quickly became the face of the fast-growing “bedroom pop” music genre.
She received critical and commercial success in 2019 with her first studio album, Immunity, which spawned singles like “Bags” and “Sofia.” Clairo won Pop Artist of the Year at the Boston Music Awards that same year.
Her sophomore album, Sling, released in 2021, was once again met with critical acclaim, topping several “Best of 2021” lists. The following world tour faced some hiccups as the singer coped with some mental and physical health issues.
On May 23, Clairo announced her third album, over three years after the release of Sling. The lead single, “Sexy to Someone,” was released the same day. In the days leading up to the announcement, the singer would post cryptic Instagram posts hinting at the release of a new piece of music.
She released a second single, “Nomad,” on June 28.
You can listen to “Charm” wherever you stream music.
