“The Democratic Party needs people like him.”

During their rain-delayed headlining set at the Seisiún Irish music festival in Boston Saturday, Dropkick Murphys frontman Ken Casey surprised absolutely no one by sharing some colorful language to describe President Donald Trump. But what he did next may not have been as expected.

“One of the ways that America takes their country back, their freedoms back, is we put politicians like my friend over here, Mr. Graham Platner, all the way down from Maine, a f—ing Marine Corps veteran — this guy is ready to f—ing shake things up for the better,” Casey said while introducing the band’s new song “Bury the Bones.”

Platner, a 40-year-old oyster farmer and veteran of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, is hoping to unseat GOP Sen. Susan Collins of Maine. “The millennial newcomer is eager to breathe fresh air into the relentless fight against Trumpism — and isn’t afraid to criticize the Democratic establishment,” noted Eugene Scott in a Boston Globe opinion column.

“The Democratic Party needs people like him,” Casey said from the stage Saturday, before dedicating the song to “all the people that are speaking up.” You can watch the full clip below. (Warning: Very NSFW language.)
