Seth Meyers responds after Trump calls him a ‘deranged lunatic’ for ‘probably illegal’ late-night jokes
Seth Meyers faced the wrath of President Donald Trump on social media over the weekend, with Trump calling the late-night host “the least-talented person to ‘perform’ live in the history of television” in a Truth Social post.

Seth Meyers is the latest late-night host to face the online ire of President Donald Trump.
After being called a “deranged lunatic” by the president on Truth Social over the weekend, Meyers responded during the newest episode of “Late Night With Seth Meyers.”
The conflict stems from a segment Meyers did on the Oct. 30 episode of his show. In it, the New Hampshire native mocked the president for obsessing over the efficacy of electromagnetic catapults versus steam catapults to launch planes off of aircraft carriers during an Oct. 28 speech to American troops stationed in Japan.
“Guy thinks about catapults more than Wile E. Coyote,” Meyers joked.

This criticism apparently did not sit well with President Trump, who called Meyers’ jokes “probably illegal” in a Nov. 1 Truth Social post.
“Seth Meyers of NBC may be the least talented person to ‘perform’ live in the history of television,” Trump wrote. “In fact, he may be the WORST to perform, live or otherwise. I watched his show the other night for the first time in years. In it he talked endlessly about electric catapults on aircraft carriers which I complain about as not being as good as much less expensive steam catapults. On and on he went, a truly deranged lunatic. Why does NBC waste its time and money on a guy like this??? – NO TALENT, NO RATINGS, 100% ANTI TRUMP, WHICH IS PROBABLY ILLEGAL!!!”
Seth Meyers responds to Trump
In his opening monologue, Meyers worked his way through the news of the day before addressing Trump’s social media activity around the ten-minute mark.
“In general I try to live by the New Yorker’s creed: When someone is ranting and raving about you, ignore them,” Meyers said. “Chances are they’re just going to move on and rant about something else.
“You can say I’m untalented. You can say I’m deranged. But I’m not the one who talks endlessly about catapults on aircraft carriers!” Meyers continued. “You’re the one who talks endlessly about catapults on aircraft carriers!”
To prove his point, Meyers then played a supercut of Trump saying “catapult” 40+ times in various speeches.

Trump’s many criticisms of Seth Meyers
Though Trump’s criticism of other late-night hosts like Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, and Stephen Colbert have been more notable, this isn’t the first time this year that the president has called out Meyers.
On January 14, Trump posted on Truth Social at 1:24 a.m. EST, saying he “got stuck watching Marble Mouth Meyers.”
“Every time I watch this moron I feel an obligation to say how dumb and untalented he is, merely a slot filler for the Scum that runs Comcast,” Trump wrote.
Then on August 25, Trump vowed to investigate the “sick rumor” that “Fake News NBC” had extended Meyers’ contract. (The company publicly announced Meyers had signed an extension through May 2028 on May 13, 2024.)
“He has no Ratings, Talent, or Intelligence, and the Personality of an insecure child,” Trump wrote. “So, why would Fake News NBC extend this dope’s contract. I don’t know, but I’ll definitely be finding out!!!”
