Red Sox legend revealed on ‘Masked Singer’ premiere

TV

David Ortiz appeared on the show as “Googly Eyes,” performing DJ Snake and Lil Jon’s “Turn Down for What.”

Big Papi might be known for his connection to a Green Monster, but he was revealed to be the celeb behind a red monster costume on Wednesday night’s Season 14 premiere of “The Masked Singer” on Fox.

The reality TV singing competition features celebrities performing popular songs while disguised in elaborate full body costumes. Contestants compete for votes from panelists and audience members. Eliminated and unmasked in the season’s first episode, the former slugger apparently just couldn’t hit the notes.

David Ortiz appeared on the show as “Googly Eyes,” performing DJ Snake and Lil Jon’s “Turn Down for What” while donning what host Nick Cannon said was the “biggest costume we’ve had on the Masked Singer” for “one of the biggest stars, of course.”

When Cannon asked Ortiz what it was like to perform in the hefty ensemble for the show, the 10-time All-Star replied, “Man, I gotta tell you man, that’s a straight up work out right there, boy. I don’t need to go to the gym for about a month.”

“But it was so much fun,” the baseball legend continued.

Cannon then asked if Ortiz was nervous performing, to which he laughed, “I can sing that all day!”

Cannon mentioned some of the panelists’ guesses, including Daddy Yankee and Derek Jeter. Big Papi responded to this appropriately with his iconic catch phrase, “Daaaaaa Yankees lose!”
