How did the ‘Seger bar’ guy get Gov. Healey for his latest video?

Is she a governor, or is she a Seger governor?

Flexing her social media savvy and even “splitting the G,” Gov. Maura Healey made a guest appearance in the latest video from Watertown native Brian Daly, who’s gone viral for judging bars by one simple metric: whether they’ll rock out to Bob Seger.

Healey joined Daly for a Guinness and some old time rock ‘n’ roll at the aptly named Beacon Hill bar 21st Amendment, asking the bartender to “throw on some Seger.”

Her pick? “Still the Same.”

After awarding the bartender a “certified Seger bar” sticker, Healey shared an anecdote about seeing Seger perform live while she was working as a cocktail waitress at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom.

So, how did Daly get Healey to make a cameo? According to Daly, it was pure coincidence. He first met the governor last year when he was a plus-one to the 125th anniversary celebration for the Local 103 union.

“She and I started chopping it up, just like about normal stuff,” Daly recalled. “And then I got the follow on Instagram from her when I put up the video recap of the 103 thing, and that was pretty much it.”

Flash forward to 2026, and he ran into the governor “in the wild” while filming one of his Seger bar videos.

“She hollered over and it kind of organically just happened. I was like, ‘You want to be a special guest?’ She was like, ‘Yeah!’ And that was it.”

Daly also said he was “very impressed” Healey recognized him and remembered his signature catchphrase: “Is it a Seger bar?”

And while Healey is one of the most recognizable elected officials in Massachusetts, Daly — a self-professed “apolitical, in a way” Bay Stater — said their conversation was anything but political.

“I just wanted to talk to her as a person, rather than as a politician, and that’s exactly what I got,” he said. “She was cool. She gave me the time of day, like she wasn’t rushing out of there. We had a really nice time.”

As for Healey’s choice of Seger track?

“I thought it was great,” Daly said. “I considered tapping in and, like, giving her one, because I wasn’t sure if she was ready to drop a song and I didn’t want her to say ‘Night Moves’ and get chirped in the comments. I thought ‘Still the Same’ was a good one. It’s an honest choice.”
