Coast Guard rescues 5 fishermen from burning vessel off Cape Cod

Five fishermen are safe and unharmed after they were rescued from a burning vessel by U.S. Coast Guard crews from Cape Cod.Officials say the Coast Guard received an emergency signal from the 100-foot trawler “Nobska,” which was 85 miles east of Cape Cod, at about 5 p.m. Friday.Crews from the Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod responded and saw that the bow and wheelhouse of the vessel were engulfed in flames when they arrived at the scene. All five Nobska crew members were on the stern of the ship.The air crew directed the crew members into the water, where they were safely hoisted and transported back to shore.No injuries were reported, according to officials.The responding Coast Guard crews included an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and an HC-144 Hercules crew.Officials say crews encountered 25 mph winds with 6-foot seas.
