Two Mass. residents displaced following a two-alarm house fire

Firefighters in Stoneham extinguished a two-alarm house fire on Tamarock Terrace on Sunday, during freezing temperatures.The Stoneham Fire Department received a 911 call from a resident reporting a fire at the Tamarock Terrace home, just after 1:30 p.m. Sunday.When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found heavy fire coming from the garage of the two-story home.Firefighters said residents were able to evacuate on their own, but a second alarm was struck immediately in order to bring mutual aid to the scene of the fire.The fire reportedly started in the garage and then spread to the attached home.Firefighters stretched two hose lines into the home to fight the fire.A Woburn firefighter was treated at the scene for overexertion, but firefighters said there were no other reported injuries and the fire was brought under control within about 30 minutes.Firefighters remained at the scene until around 4 p.m.Two residents are reportedly displaced, but are staying with family in the area.Firefighters from Woburn, Wakefield, Melrose, Reading, and Winchester provided mutual aid at the scene and firefighters from Saugus, Medford and Malden covered Stoneham stations.The Stoneham Police Department, Stoneham Department of Public Works and Armstrong Ambulance also provided assistance at the scene.”This was a tough fire and the freezing weather conditions made it even more challenging, but all the firefighters on scene worked hard and did a great job,” said Stoneham Fire Chief Matthew Grafton. “I’d also like to recognize our dispatchers for doing great work today.”The cause remains under investigation by the Stoneham Fire Investigation Unit, but firefighters said it appears to be accidental.
