Trump defends Attorney General Bondi amid Epstein probe backlash

President Donald Trump is publicly defending Attorney General Pam Bondi in an apparent message to his supporters calling for her to resign. Bondi is facing backlash for her handling of an investigation into disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. In a Truth Social post on Saturday, Trump said, “What’s going on with my “boys” and, in some cases, “gals?” They’re all going after Attorney General Pam Bondi, who is doing a FANTASTIC JOB! We’re on one Team, MAGA, and I don’t like what’s happening. “Trump urged his allies not to “waste Time and Energy on Jeffrey Epstein, somebody that nobody cares about.” Epstein, a convicted sex offender, died in prison while awaiting a federal sex-trafficking trial, a suicide that has long been disputed by conspiracy theorists. Last week, the Justice Department released a memo stating there is no evidence that Epstein was murdered or that he kept a client list exposing his associates.Bondi seemed to suggest otherwise in an interview earlier this year with Fox News. Asked to explain the apparent disparity on Tuesday, she said, “I was asked a question about the client list, and my response was it’s sitting on my desk to be reviewed, meaning the file, along with the JFK and MLK files as well. That’s what I meant by that.”FBI Director Kash Patel also responded to rumors of his resignation over the weekend. “The conspiracy theories just aren’t true, never have been. It’s an honor to serve the President of the United States @realDonaldTrump — and I’ll continue to do so for as long as he calls on me,” Patel said. Meanwhile, multiple media outlets have reported that FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino was considering resigning after clashing with Bondi over the Epstein investigation last week. As of Saturday evening, Bongino had yet to comment publicly on those reports and he was not mentioned in Trump’s post. However, the White House has sought to downplay any possible divisions within the administration. “Any attempt to sow division within this team is baseless and distracts from the real progress being made in restoring public safety and pursuing justice for all,” said White House spokesman Harrison Fields.
