A dog was found dead in the wreckage of the home.

HAPPENING RIGHT NOW. KMBC NINE NEWS. THANKS FOR STAYING WITH US AT NOON, AS WE DO CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THAT BREAKING NEWS JUST INTO THE NEWSROOM. SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAMS HAVE NOW FOUND TWO BODIES IN THE RUBBLE IN A HOME EXPLOSION. KMBC NINE ANDY ALCOCK IS LIVE NEAR THAT SCENE. IT’S OFF KIMBERLY DRIVE, NORTHWEST OF EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, AND THAT’S WHERE INVESTIGATORS HAVE BEEN COMBING THROUGH THAT WRECKAGE. ANDY. OBVIOUSLY, A DIFFICULT SITUATION THERE. YEAH, NO QUESTION ABOUT IT. KELLY AND WE’RE TOLD BY NEIGHBORS, THE TWO PEOPLE WHO LIVED THERE, A HUSBAND AND WIFE, BOTH OF THEM, ABOUT 70 YEARS OLD AT THIS POINT, INVESTIGATORS ARE NOT IDENTIFYING THE PEOPLE THEY BELIEVED TO BE THE VICTIMS FOUND IN THAT RUBBLE. UNTIL NEXT OF KIN IS NOTIFIED. NOW, ALSO, EARLIER THIS MORNING, THERE WAS A DECEASED DOG FOUND HERE AT THE SCENE. WE ARE TOLD BY NEIGHBORS IT’S LIKELY THE COUPLE’S SMALL BROWN DOG NAMED CINNAMON. THE EXPLOSION HAPPENED AT ABOUT 430. THIS MORNING. IT LEFT THE HOME IN RUINS, WOKE UP NEIGHBORS AND CAUSED SOME DAMAGE TO NEARBY HOMES AS WELL. NOW, THE CAUSE HASN’T BEEN DETERMINED YET. ONE LIKELY AVENUE INVESTIGATORS ARE EXPLORING IS A PROPANE EXPLOSION. BECAUSE THIS NEIGHBORHOOD IS IN A RURAL AREA, THERE’S NO ACCESS TO A NATURAL GAS LINE. INSTEAD, EACH INDIVIDUAL HOME HAS ITS OWN PROPANE TANK FOR COOKING AND HEATING. ONE NEIGHBOR TELLS US A WOMAN WHO THE WOMAN WHO LIVED IN THE HOME OWNED A CAR WHICH CAUGHT FIRE AFTER THE EXPLOSION. SHE SAW IT UP IN FLAMES. NEIGHBORS TELL US, BECAUSE THE COUPLE’S CARS WERE THERE, THEY THOUGHT IT WAS LIKELY THAT THEY WERE AT HOME WHEN THE HOUSE BLEW UP. WE ARE TOLD THAT THE COUPLE DID NOT HAVE ANY CHILDREN OF THEIR OWN, BUT A NEIGHBOR TELLS US THE COUPLE DID RAISE A NIECE AND NEPHEW. WE BELIEVE THAT EITHER ONE OF THEM OR BOTH OF THEM HAVE BEEN HERE AT THE SCENE EITHER EARLIER THIS MORNING, THEY MAY STILL BE HERE. NOW, WE HAVEN’T BEEN ABLE TO GET ANYWHERE NEAR IT AT THIS POINT. WE WILL OF COURSE, HAVE UPDATES COMING UP TONIGHT AT FOUR, FIVE AND SIX.
