The Braintree Americans advanced in the Little League World Series Saturday afternoon, beating the Texas Little League team 7-3.The Americans had to win Saturday’s game to move on, and they did just that, bouncing back after a shutout loss to South Carolina on Thursday. Southside Tavern in Braintree was filled with nervous excitement as fans gathered for a watch party Saturday afternoon. This is the first time the team has made it to the Little League World Series in 72 years.”Unbelievable. The town of Braintree is like lit up in blue. You look in windows, there are signs,” said Eddie Moschella. “This is a beautiful thing.””No matter how you swing this win or lose, it’s a great experience for the kids, the coaches, the parents,” said Billy Clougher. “Just to be included in the top 20 in the world is an experience in itself.” The 12-year-olds battled hard through extra innings to advance to the World Series, defeating Bedford, New Hampshire, on Aug. 7. Braintree will play the Northwest team, Bonney Lake, Washington on Sunday in Game 17. This will also be a win-or-go-home game for the Americans.If Braintree can advance to the U.S. Final, the game would be on Saturday, Aug. 23. The World Championship would be Sunday, Aug. 24. Both of those games can be seen on WCVB-TV.Fans say no matter the outcome, a parade is in order in Braintree.
