Boston Fire lieutenant facing numerous felony gun charges

A Boston Fire Department lieutenant is facing numerous weapon charges after multiple firearms, rounds of ammunition and ballistic vests were found in his Milton, Massachusetts, home, according to a police report. Joshua Thompson, 38, is facing 21 charges that include drug possession, having a firearm without an FID card and improper storage of a large capacity firearm. Nine of the charges are felonies. On June 5, Thompson was served with a harassment prevention order that required him to surrender his firearms, ammunition and license to carry a gun. Police said he initially refused to comply and then surrendered some of his weapons. His license to carry was then revoked in July, according to a police report.Police on Monday spoke with Thompson’s wife, who said the couple had past domestic disputes and said her husband refused to let her leave their Adams Street residence. She provided police with a photo of a rifle that was unsecured in their home and said she was concerned for the safety of the couple’s three children, the report said. A temporary restraining order was issued the following day. Police obtained a search warrant, and as it was executed, ammunition was observed “within minutes” of the search. Thompson was arrested. Five assault-style rifles, five handguns, 2,000 rounds of ammunition, 76 handgun and rifle magazines, four ballistic vests and a number of tourniquets were found in the home, according to the report. Officials said 100 tablets of Adderall were also found in the residence. Police said based on where the guns were found, it appeared that Thompson was “preparing himself for some type of conflict.””It should be noted for officer and community safety concerns that the staging of the location of the firearms, ballistic vests and tourniquets at multiple entry points is cause for concern beyond just improper storage,” the report said. Thompson was arraigned Wednesday and held without bail. He returned to court on Friday and will continue to be held.
