43-year-old singer cuts performance short due to medical emergency

Louisiana singer-songwriter Marc Broussard cut his New Orleans Jazz Fest performance short on Friday after experiencing a medical emergency. Broussard posted to social media, addressing what happened during his performance and stating that he “felt like he was going to die on stage.”According to Broussard, he was already feeling unwell on his two-hour drive to the festival, and once he got on stage, he says he began feeling even worse. “There were a few moments in the Wanderer where I had to push really hard. My hands went numb, and my legs were very weak, and I started to go out a little bit, but managed to recover,” Broussard said.He said he assumed he was having a panic attack and was trying to work and push through the performance, but after a few more songs, he was still not feeling well and started to believe he was having a heart attack.”At one point, I told Terry, on drums, dude, this might be the last song I ever sing,” Broussard said. Broussard eventually cut his performance short, intending to go to the hospital. He was checked out by the medical team at Jazz Fest, and it was determined that Broussard was suffering from severe dehydration. “I orally hydrated for a good little while, while I cooled off backstage, then went over to the medical tent and got some IV fluids and felt a thousand times better,” Broussard said. Broussard continued to apologize for ending the performance early and said he will promise to make it up. “I apologize to anybody that felt like we cut the set short — we did — but I don’t think I would have survived playing two more songs, to be quite honest,” Broussard said. “It was a rough day. I appreciate any love and support, and I promise I’ll make it up. I just need to take a little bit better care of myself, so that’s the plan.”
