Accused ISIS terrorist involved in murder of New England journalist pleads guilty

One of the alleged ISIS terrorists charged with murdering New Hampshire journalist James Foley in 2014 pled guilty Thursday.Alexanda Amon Kotey, a British national, pled guilty at a federal courthouse in Alexandria, Virginia.Kotey had a change of plea hearing scheduled around 6 p.m. on Thursday. Kotey pled guilty to all eight counts of the indictment.Kotey is one of two alleged ISIS terrorists charged with conspiring to torture and behead American and European hostages in Syria, including Foley, who was an international journalist from Rochester murdered in 2014.Kotey and another man, El Shafee Elsheikh, were brought to the United States last year to face charges.Those charges include conspiracy to commit hostage-taking resulting in death, hostage-taking resulting in death and conspiracy to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization resulting in death. Foley grew up in New Hampshire and his parents, longtime residents of Rochester, became advocates for press freedom and journalist safety. Foley was working as a journalist in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and Syria before he was held captive and beheaded by ISIS in 2014.

Kotey is one of two alleged ISIS terrorists charged with conspiring to torture and behead American and European hostages in Syria, including Foley, who was an international journalist from Rochester murdered in 2014.
