English singer Morrissey canceled two New England shows after “credible threats” against his life, according to the performer and the Boston venue set to host him.

Morrissey, the former lead singer of the Smiths, had scheduled stops at Foxwoods in Mashantucket, Connecticut on Friday and MGM Music Hall in Fenway on Saturday that were both canceled.

All tickets were refunded automatically at the original point of purchase, Morrissey’s team wrote on Facebook.

“Due to recent events and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and band, the upcoming shows this weekend at Foxwoods and MGM Music Hall have been cancelled,” the Facebook post said. “We appreciate your understanding.”

MGM Music Hall said in a statement that there was a credible death threat against Morrissey, and the show Saturday night would be canceled “out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and the band.”

The Canada and U.S. leg of Morrissey’s tour kicked off Sept. 10 in Quebec, but his show in Ottawa two days later was targeted by a threat. Noah Castellano, 26, is accused of writing a death threat on social media, according to the Ottawa Citizen. The show went ahead as planned.

“Steven Patrick Morrissey when you perform at TD Place here in Ottawa next week on the evening of September 12th, 2025 at about 9pm, I will be present at the venue in the audience and I will attempt to shoot you many times and kill you with a very large gun that I own illegally,” the post allegedly said.

The British singer, 66, is known as the frontman of the 1980s band The Smiths but is a prolific solo artist. His hits include “Suedehead,” “Everyday is Like Sunday,” and “First of the Gang to Die,” while his tour includes songs recorded by The Smiths.

Morrissey’s next stop is Tuesday night in Philadelphia.
