Paul Mescal says he’s a ‘big Red Sox boy’ after falling for baseball at Fenway Park

Celebs

The Irish actor revealed in a British GQ interview that he now takes baseball “very seriously” — and credits a personal connection for his Boston fandom.

Paul Mescal has added an unexpected title to his résumé: Red Sox fan.

The Irish actor revealed in a recent British GQ interview that he has become deeply invested in Major League Baseball — and, more specifically, Boston’s team. When asked what people would be surprised to learn he takes seriously, Mescal didn’t hesitate.

“I take baseball very seriously now,” he said.

That interest, Mescal explained, ramped up last year when he attended his first MLB game at Fenway Park. Sitting near the dugout, he said the experience sealed the deal.

“Red Sox fan?” the interviewer asked.

“Red Sox fan, yeah,” Mescal replied. “I’m a big Red Sox boy.”

Mescal said he was already following baseball before visiting Fenway, watching highlights on his phone every morning. And while Boston’s Irish roots might seem like an obvious draw, he said his fandom comes from his personal life.

“Partner connection, huge,” he said.

Mescal is reportedly dating singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams, who performed in Boston last July for The Secret of Us Deluxe Tour and has previously called New England “home.”

The Red Sox shoutout comes as Mescal is having a major awards-season moment. His latest film, “Hamnet,” has been drawing early Oscar buzz and recently won for Best Drama at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards, further cementing his status as one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors.
