Boston gave WWE superstar John Cena a final legendary send off on Nov. 10, as the wrestling icon returned to the city where his career began in 2002. The TD Garden event was declared “John Cena Day” by Governor Maura Healey.

During the Monday Night Raw event, Cena defeated Dominik Mysterio to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship — the only major WWE title he hadn’t held. With 17 previous championships, which includes the WWE Championship, World Heavyweight Championship, and the United States Championship, this victory cemented himself as a wrestling legend.

According to The Boston Herald, Cena said, “I had one last request. I wanted to come to Boston one last time.”

Addressing the crowd at TD Garden, Cena said he had personally asked the WWE to make a stop in Boston for his farewell tour. In a post on X, Cena shared his gratitude the following day: “Thank you Boston. It meant so much to be able, for one last time, to be allowed an opportunity to do what I love, in a place I love, surrounded by those I love.”

Cena, who announced his retirement last year, has just three matches left in his farewell tour.

Reflecting on his Boston send-off, he said: “To look up at the rafters and see the banners in this building, surrounded by friends, family, and loved ones, I can stand in this ring and say thank you.”
